"The whole story of Christianity can be summarized in two Adams. The first Adam - the one defying God in the garden of Eden - as a representative head or the entire human race disobeyed and plunged ever other mortal into sin and misery. The second Adam - the one crying to God in the garden of Gethsemane - as a representative head for all the elect obeyed even onto death and purchased redemption for all who believe."

"Redemption is not a right but a blessing. Not all will be saved. Although the fall of humanity was universal, salvation is not. It is only by faith that we are joined to Christ and share in all that His salvation accomplished." Kevin DeYoung. The Truth We Almost Forgot.

Question 20: Are all saved through Christ just as all were lost through Adam?

Answer: No, only those are saved who by true faith are grafted into Christ and accept all his blessings.

Question 21: What is true faith?

Answer: True faith is not only a knowledge and conviction that everything God reveals in His Word is true; it is also a deep-rooted assurance, created in me by the Holy Spirit through the gospel, that, out of sheer grace earned for us by Christ, not only others, but I too, have had my sins forgiven, have been made forever right with God, and have been granted salvation.
