Psalm 34

“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!”

G.K. Chesterton wrote, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.” As a parent I can testify that many things at the dinner table are endlessly insulted that have never once passed over the lips of the complainant. There is a word that perfectly enunciates what those in the water feel about those who refuse to even dip in a toe. The word is, “Oh!”, and it typically prefaces a pleading call to the simplest, easiest, least-committed action possible. The “try”.

The “try” is beautiful because it puts all the onus for success on that which is being tried. Failure is not even a possibility for the experimenter. To try is to succeed. Simply approach, taste, touch, listen. The entire experience rests solely on the object of the “try”.

And that is the gospel’s call today. Taste and you will see that the LORD is good. All you must do is let God define himself and be honest about how that affects you. Once encountered in that context, He will graciously do the rest and you will know what good truly means.

God bless. Be encouraged. Now press play.
